The Actual 12th Earl of Sandwich Attends New Restaurant Opening

If you thought your lunch break couldn’t get any more legendary, think again! The brand-new Earl of Sandwich location at Disneyland Resort’s Downtown Disney District hosted its official grand opening on Wednesday morning, July 15, 2026—and they brought some serious royal history along with them.

To cut the ceremonial ribbon, the restaurant welcomed none other than The Honorable Luke Montagu, the 12th Earl of Sandwich. Accompanied by his family, the Earl traveled all the way to Anaheim to celebrate the brand’s biggest milestone yet. Shaking hands with Mickey Mouse and sharing remarks, Montagu brought the legendary family legacy directly to the Southern California coast.

A Sandwich Born of Royalty

For those who don’t know their sandwich lore, the beloved quick-service brand has real-life noble roots:

• 1762: The 4th Earl of Sandwich famously popularizes the “sandwich” concept so he wouldn’t have to leave his gambling table to eat.
• 2004: The modern Earl of Sandwich restaurant chain is founded in Orlando by entrepreneur Robert Earl in partnership with John Montagu (the 11th Earl) and his son, Luke Montagu (the current 12th Earl).

Now, over two decades later, that partnership is bringing Downtown Disney guests a reimagined dining experience.

More Than Just a Sandwich Shop: What’s New?

According to founder Robert Earl, this new location isn’t just another restaurant—it’s the largest and most immersive Earl of Sandwich experience built to date.

“We didn’t want to simply build another Earl of Sandwich. We wanted to create a destination worthy of the Downtown Disney District,” said Earl during the ceremony.

To prove it, they’ve introduced some highly anticipated features to the new location:

• The Carvery: A brand-new centerpiece experience where premium, hot pastrami is carved fresh right in front of guests.
• The Pub: Located right inside the restaurant, serving draft beers, wines, frozen cocktails, and rotating seasonal drinks.
• The Bakery: Satisfying your sweet tooth with loaded cookies, warm cinnamon rolls, and rotating seasonal specialties.

The grand opening follows a successful soft opening in late June, and puts the restaurant right next door to the newly opened Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby, making this corner of Downtown Disney a major new foodie hub.
