New Details Revealed for Magicband+ & Hey Disney!

Guests enjoy a fireworks display with new MagicBand+ features

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for a new MagicBand. Walt Disney World has announced that this summer they will launch the newest version, called MagicBand+. Later this year, the new “Hey Disney!” digital voice assistant will be available as well. These products will enhance guest visits during the 50th anniversary, but they will go far beyond that.

Guests who already know and use MagicBands will know that they can be used to enter parks and guest rooms, make purchases, and utilize the Disney PhotoPass service. But MagicBand+ will go even further by adding to entertainment experiences around the parks.

New Details Revealed for Magicband+ & Hey Disney!

One feature involves the 50th-anniversary golden character sculptures around the four Walt Disney World theme parks. MagicBand+ will help you interact with them on the “Disney Fab 50 Quest.” You can also use the Play Disney Parks mobile app to remember which sculptures you’ve found. The more you find, the more features you can unlock. Win digital achievements and enjoy an augmented reality feature to dive deeper into the magical world of Disney.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will offer a variety of interactions through MagicBand+. Check out the “Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters” experience. Your MagicBand+ will act as a guide, vibrating and lighting up to track virtual bounties concealed throughout Black Spire Outpost. Use the augmented reality thermal viewer in the Play Disney Parks app to reveal your virtual bounty. Your local guild master will reward you with galactic credits once you’ve completed the mission.

Another new feature will be to experience nighttime spectaculars through MagicBand+ as it lights up and complements the show. It takes the fireworks to a whole new level.

MagicBand+ will launch this summer with these new features. Disney Resort hotel guests and Walt Disney World Annual Passholders will be able to buy them at a lower, pre-arrival price. MagicBands and Disney MagicMobile will still be valid for use. Original MagicBand will continue to be available for purchase as well.

Be on the lookout for a magical new digital voice assistant called “Hey Disney!” The feature will use Alexa technology for supported Amazon Echo devices after purchase. Use it to ask questions such as weather forecasts, alarms, and more. You’ll be answered by one of more than 25 characters including Mickey Mouse, Olaf, Princess Tiana, and others. Use “Hey Disney!” at select Disney resort hotels for information about your vacation, to order room amenities, check bus schedules, and more. The “Hey Disney!” resort feature will be available in select Walt Disney World Resort hotel guest rooms later this year. It is an optional, complementary feature.

MagicBand+ will be available at Disneyland Resort later this year also. Some of the features will vary between Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. Keep checking back for more details!
