Netflix and Howard University Create $5.4 Million Scholarship in Honor of Chadwick Boseman. For those who do not know, the late Chadwick Boseman graduated from Howard University and after his untimely death, the University swiftly moved to rename their Fine Arts Center the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, on top of renaming the college, Howard University is now offering a $5.4 million Chadwick A. Boseman Memorial Scholarship, which will primarily be awarded to students in the dramatic arts. Netflix is the inaugural donor of the scholarship, which was awarded to this year’s recipients: freshman Sarah Long (musical theatre), sophomore Shawn Smith (acting), junior Janee’ Ferguson (theatre arts administration) and senior Deirdre Dunkin (dance).

“This scholarship embodies Chadwick’s love for Howard, his passion for storytelling, and his willingness to support future generations of Howard students. I am thankful for the continuous support and partnership of Chadwick’s wife, Mrs. Simone Ledward-Boseman, and to Netflix for this important gift,” shared Howard University President Wayne A.I. Frederick in a statement regarding the scholarship.

Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos added, “He always spoke of his time at Howard and the positive way it shaped his life and career. Now, we will have the opportunity to give many future superheroes a chance to experience the same. We are grateful to Simone and Chadwick’s whole family and our partners at Howard University for making this possible.”
