Monstropolis Construction Permits Filed for Harryhausen’s and Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza at Hollywood Studios
More construction work is on the menu for Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as Walt Disney Imagineering has filed two new permits covering the land’s upcoming restaurants. The permits are for Harryhausen’s, which is replacing Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, and Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, the new Monsters, Inc.-themed restaurant taking over the former PizzeRizzo location.

Both permits list the work simply as “General Construction,” so there are not many new details about exactly what will be happening inside the buildings. PCL Construction is listed as the general contractor for both projects. Harryhausen’s is located at 359 Cypress Drive, while the neighboring Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza is listed at 357 Cypress Drive.
We have already seen some major changes taking shape at the former Mama Melrose’s as it transforms into Harryhausen’s, the restaurant inspired by the popular sushi restaurant from “Monsters, Inc.” An X-shaped support beam was installed on the exterior earlier this summer for the restaurant’s giant chopsticks, one of the recognizable features shown in Disney’s concept art. Inside, Disney has revealed that guests will encounter a sushi-slinging octopus animatronic, bringing another piece of Monstropolis to life.
The transformation of PizzeRizzo into Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza remains a little more mysterious. Disney has confirmed the restaurant will feature new recipes and equipment, but it remains unclear just how dramatically the building itself will change. The restaurant takes its name from Archie the Scare Pig, the six-legged mascot of Fear Tech seen in the “Monsters, Inc.” universe.

The two new permits are another sign that work continues to move forward on the massive transformation of this corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios into Monstropolis. Once complete, guests will be able to step into the world of Mike, Sulley, and the monsters, with new dining locations joining the land’s centerpiece suspended door coaster and other themed experiences.
