Marvel Fans Are Worried Tom Holland’s Last Appearance as Spider-Man Will Be In “No Way Home.” As we approach the theatrical exclusive release of Spider-Man: No Way Home the cast has begun their press tours for the upcoming title and with it come some insightful interviews. Marvel fans are beginning to worry about the franchise after a tonally different interview with Tom Holland says that change is coming for the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Holland spoke with EW and shared, “We were all treating [No Way Home] as the end of a franchise, let’s say. I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you’d be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy. We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don’t know. But we were definitely treating [No Way Home] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it.”

Previously we had reported that Holland’s contract initially featured 9 Spider-Man franchise films, with 3 trilogies. One featuring Peter’s time in High School, one showcasing his time as a College Student, and a final trilogy following his web-slinging escapades as an adult, potentially with a family to look after as well as budding new superhero teams to mentor. This could explain the shift in tone from Holland as his version of Peter is moving on with his life and abilities. We’ve all seen how new paths can change people and this would be no different for the beloved character as he moves forward.
Another concern from fans has to deal with where Holland’s contract stands between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. When the two entertainment conglomerates went head to head over the use of Spider-Man at a negotiation things went south quickly and we almost say the end of Spider-Man in the MCU as a result. Due to outcry from fans and the cast alike the two came back to renegotiate the terms and settled on a users agreement moving forward. The details of this agreement have been kept tightly under wraps, but for now, it has allowed us to at least get Spider-Man: No Way Home and potentially an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have yet to confirm the fate of Holland in the MCU, but given Marvel Studios’ new stance on contracts with talent and Tom’s knack for sharing spoilers, it comes as no surprise that the team at Marvel would be keeping him in the dark regarding his future in the franchise.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will be swinging exclusively into theaters on December 17, 2021. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for updates and all things Marvel!
