Marvel Studios Wraps Filming on ‘Black Widow’. The first film of Phase 4 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is set to release May 1, 2020 and we can’t wait! Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff first made her appearance in the MCU alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man 2 and has since been featured in 7-Marvel Films alongside her fellow Avengers, but now Scarlett Johansson will star in her own film, titled Black Widow, and usher in a new age for Marvel Studios.

During the weekend, Black Widow stunt performer, Lucy-Jayne Murray, shared a post on Instagram sharing the news that Black Widow has wrapped up filming and a heartfelt message to her fellow cast mates. “That’s officially a wrap on Black Widow,” Murray wrote in the post. “I have loved this team so much, each and every one of you means the world to me and I’m so grateful to have had this experience with you all. Thank you all so much.”

Though excited for the spy thriller set to release next Spring, many fans were not happy that Marvel Studios waited so long to release a solo film for Scar Jo’s, Black Widow, but the actress pushed back saying she felt she could not have played this version of Natasha a decade ago.

“I don’t think I could have played this iteration of Natasha 10 years ago,” Johansson said during Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con. “It would’ve been a very different film. I get to play Natasha as a fully realized woman and in all of her many facets. I’m excited for fans to see the flawed side of her, what she perceives to be the flawed side of her. And I’m looking to wipe out some of that red in my ledger, so you guys will be seeing a lot of that.”

In response to questions about why it took Marvel Studios so long to produce a solo Black Widow film for the MCU, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shared this statement in an interview with io9, “There’s a method to the madness. There’s always a method and doing things in an unexpected way is something we find fun. There are ways to do prequels that are less informative or answer questions you didn’t necessarily have, and then there are ways to do prequels where you learn all sorts of things you never knew before.”

Are you as excited as we are for Black Widow? Do you feel the film will be worth the wait? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments! Marvel’s Black Widow will usher in Phase 4 of the MCU and is set to premiere in theaters May 1, 2020.
