Mark Hamill Shares Why He Didn’t Voice Luke in the ‘LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special‘. The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is a wonderful compilation featuring some of the most iconic moments and unprecedented crossovers from the Skywalker Saga. Though many actors including Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), and Oscar Issac (Poe Dameron) did not reprise their roles for the special, many noticed the absence of Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) in the special as well.
Hamill was asked by a fan on Twitter why he didn’t voice Luke in the new holiday special to which Mark replied, “I did not play the voice of Luke in the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special because: A) I didn’t want to risk tarnishing the legendary status of the original. AND: B) They didn’t ask me to. #TrueStory”

Though Hamill has shared his love for the role with fans, he has also aired some grievances with Disney since their acquisition of Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise. Mark Hamill has had a very successful career outside of the Star Wars franchise as a voice actor which has led fans to wonder why he was not considered for the role.
Another theory outside of Hamill’s disapproval of the company’s use of the franchise is that it simply would have cost the studio too much to hire Mark for the animated project. That may seem like grasping at straws, but with the absence of a large portion of the main cast this is a viable reason. Just saying, you would think that as a professional courtesy Mark would have been at least asked about the role, but based off his comment he wasn’t even given the option.
