Margot Robbie To Star in New ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Movie. According to Entertainment Weekly, Margot Robbie has locked down the mysterious lead role in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film which is set to reboot the franchise. It is unknown at this time if Margot has been cast as the rumored “Redd” or if another actress will fulfill that role in the film.
Previously, it was rumored that Karen Gillan was a top choice for the role of Redd when it was announced that Johnny Depp will get his sea legs back as the notorious pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow. Not much is known about the film, other than it is said to take place before the events in the other Pirates of the Caribbean films, making it the first prequel in the franchise.
“Redd” is a revitalized version of the red headed woman that was featured in the old bride auction scene of the beloved Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the Disney Parks around the world, who has since been re-imagined to be the Captain of the motley crew that lines the docks of the attractions. Disney has been making a conscious effort to be more inclusive and give audiences more relatable characters to inspire and share fantastic and magical stories of adventure, romance, and more, and it looks like they aim to do the same on the high seas.
Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey) is set to pen the script for Disney. Disney has confirmed Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is in the works, but has not confirmed any other casting or production details at this time. But, if the other rumors be true, well then “drink up me ‘earties, Yo ho!” Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for all things Disney!
