Maleficent 2 Director in Talks to Helm Tron Ares

According to Deadline Joachim Rønning is in negotiations with Disney to direct Tron Ares with Jared Leto.

Disney’s Tron Ares or Tron 3 is eyeing an August 2023 start date in Vancouver to begin filming.

Joachim Rønning previously directed Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Jared Leto had previously announced on several occasions that he would be playing a character named Ares in the upcoming film and even revealed the film’s title as Tron: Ares in a deleted tweet from 2020.

Recently Jared Leto has been cast as the Hatbox Ghost in Disney’s New ‘Haunted Mansion’ Film.

The Tron: Ares script is written by Jesse Wigutow and is considered the sequel to Tron: Legacy, which was directed by Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joe Kosinski.
