Jennifer Grey to Reprise Her Role for a ‘Dirty Dancing‘ Sequel. Actress and 80’s icon, Jennifer Grey is set to reprise her role as Frances “Baby” Houseman for another sequel to her 1987 hit film. The original movie starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze, and followed the story of “Baby” (Grey) who is only one listless summer away from the Peace Corps. Hoping to enjoy her youth while it lasts, she’s disappointed when her summer plans deposit her at a sleepy resort in the Catskills with her parents. Her luck turns around, however, when the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny (Swayze), enlists Baby as his new partner, and the two fall in love. Baby’s father forbids her from seeing Johnny, but she’s determined to help him perform the last big dance of the summer.
Chief Executive of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., Jon Feltheimer shared,”It will be exactly the kind of romantic nostalgic movie that the franchise’s fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the company’s history.” Jennifer Grey will also act as a producer for the film, with Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) is set to direct the sequel.
Earlier this year Jennifer and husband of 19 years, Clark Gregg (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Avengers, Captain Marvel), amicably divorced, but only recently announced their split to the public. Both Grey and Gregg have parted on good terms, remaining close friends through it all, and continue to co-parent their daughter Stella. Grey shared the news with fans via Instagram on July 3rd.
No plot details for the sequel have been shared at this time, but we can’t wait to see what Baby has been up to for the last few decades! Lionsgate has not shared any other casting choices at this time, but if Patrick Swayze’s character Johnny appears in the film it is unknown who would replace the late actor for the role. The Dirty Dancing sequel does not have a release date at this time.
