One of the most iconic songs in Disney history is “it’s a small world.” The catchy earworm song was written by the Sherman brothers for the 1964 World’s Fair. Now the popular theme park song is receiving a special honor. The Disney song has been deemed culturally and historically significant by the United States Library of Congress.
The version that was inducted is the 1964 single of “it’s a small world” by The Disneyland Boys Choir. We know some like to make jokes about the song being played on a continuous loop. But it’s still a beloved Disney theme parks song!

The Library of Congress chose a total of 25 recordings in the 2022 class of inductees deemed “worthy of preservation for all time based on their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation’s recorded sound heritage.”
“The National Recording Registry reflects the diverse music and voices that have shaped our nation’s history and culture through recorded sound,” Hayden said. “The national library is proud to help preserve these recordings, and we welcome the public’s input. We received about 1,000 public nominations this year for recordings to add to the registry.”
With these additional recordings, there are now around 600 in the registry in the National Recording Registry. This is a small piece of the nearly 4 million items in the Library of Congress’s collection.
