Disney Plus Informer located code on the Disney+ website that indicates a future feature for group watch parties. The code was added to the service over the weekend. It hints at some exciting entertainment features to come for the streaming service.
The information in the code suggests an interactive capability as well. So it looks like subscribers will be able to communicate with other viewers in their watch party. The code hints that viewers can communicate via emojis and online chat while on Disney+. Also, it’s specific to only users within the same continent for group content viewing. So American viewers can’t setup groups with viewers in markets such as Europe for Disney+.
If group viewing is enabled, it’ll be a first for the streaming service industry.
There’s a chance we might be seeing this new watch party feature sooner than some might expect. It’s possible it could debut when Mulan is added for Premier Access. However, all viewers would need to have paid for Mulan in order to watch as a group in this case. If watching something via Premier Access, all participants’ accounts must have paid the fee for Premier Access.
What do you think of the concept of online group watch parties? It can be a fun way to catch up on Disney classics with your friends who live far away!
