Home for the Holidays at Carolwood returns to The Walt Disney Family Museum this Christmas. The beloved, immersive seasonal experience celebrating Walt’s family and his love of trains returns! This exhibition has been a yearly tradition since 2016 and begins on the 15th November 2018 to the 7th January 2018.
The most prominent element of the exhibition will be the elaborate, three dimensional model of the Disney family home, which once stood on Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills section of Los Angeles. This exhibition will even feature a miniature version of Walt’s steam locomotive, the Lilly Belle, travelling around his Carolwood Pacific Fair Weather Route—a half-mile track that crisscrossed the home’s lawn and flowerbeds. The beautiful model will be decorated with seasonal lights and ceremoniously illuminated for the time first on Walt’s birthday, Wednesday 5th December, which coincides with the museum’s next free admission day.
To celebrate this wonderful season, the museum is enhancing visitors’ experience through their major special exhibition, Walt Disney’s Nine Old Men: Masters of Animation. This will include an array of never-before-seen holiday cards created by many of the titular Nine Old Men, which were a cast of influential animators who worked directly with Walt. This will be displayed in Masters of Animation for the last few months of its run- make sure to catch it before it goes! The cards will accompany the personal snapshots that depict Walt and his family, plus the animation art and ephemera, that make Home for the Holidays at Carolwood. Similarly, for the first time, visitors can get an up close and personal look at the vintage sledge which features an original, painted design of the original “pie-eyed” version of Mickey Mouse!
