Growing Up Disney!
Now that Smile is Magic!

We have all seen the promos, commercials and ads for Disney and most time always with a small child, because let’s face it, there is nothing as Magical as seeing Disney Magic through the eyes of a child!
Thankfully I have been there as well! My son was introduced to Walt Disney World at the age of 5 so we have seen him grow up with each Disney trip always finding something new and exciting to be amazed and enthralled with! For my husband and I to see the look of Magic in his eyes has always been priceless and just another reason for us to love WDW!

So now we are just 29 days away from what will be my son’s 6th trip to the World and he just turned 13…sigh…which the other day for the first time made me a little sad to think that he won’t get as excited walking down Main Street to the Castle, or running to get to Buzz Lightyear for his favorite picture or getting so excited knowing that today is the day that we eat at Chef Mickey’s…Yep I’m thinking that those days are or will be soon be gone.

As perfect and Pixie Dust filled as those days were I can honestly say (other than those little moments mom’s have of wishing their babies were still little) that I’m excited to see what new magical moments he will find! So I ask him “what are you most looking forward to on this trip?” and with his first answer it was like every other answer I get these days…:”I don’t Know?” but then he did think for a moment and then started his list of “New” things he was ready to try!

1.) Helping our friends, who will be joining us this trip and have never been to WDW! He says he can’t wait to show them around and let them know all his secrets!

2.)  Trying different foods! Now he has always been a rather adventurous eater but we have done our fair share of character meals and loved them but this trip his choices were a little different with the line up looking like this…Boma, Yak-n-Yeti, Le Celliar, O’Hana, Mama Melrose’s and he is dying to go to Planet Hollywood!

3.)  Checking out Disney Quest!  In all our trips we have never been here so this year it is on his list.

4.) Spending a day at a water park. This was always take it or leave it, this year its a must do!

5.)  Having his “guy time”! Ever since we have started taking him, he and my husband take an afternoon to go park hopping to all the, well as he use to call them, “big boy rides” from Space Mountain to Everest and Tower of Terror to Mission Space! He and his dad just hanging out and riding the big guns, so thankfully this hasn’t changed!

6.) And his big one…can we sleep in a couple of days! I thought this was cute because as you know nothing is more important to a teen than sleep!

This list is so different from years past when they looked something like this…

1.) Meet Characters

2.) Meet Characters when we eat

3.) Go to the park when it opens and stay all day!

4.) Daddy day

As you can see they are a little different!

So his list of must do’s have changed and he wants to go about some things a little different and rope drops most likely won’t happen this trip but that’s ok I’ll take it, because I know we will still laugh ourselves silly on Space Mountain try to beat each other scores on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Toy Story Mania, eat popcorn at the parades and cupcakes for breakfast!

As our kids grow there must do’s change… even at Disney! Ask them what they are looking forward to and what they would like to do, see, eat or play and let them help plan out your WDW family vacation!

Because it’s Disney and just like us, some things change and some stay the same, either way its Disney Magic and I can’t wait to see what it looks like at 13!

What about you do you have any little ones that have grown up going to Disney World?

  1. I have been going to Disney since I was little and now I will be taking my little one (9 months) for the first time this year. Our family is mega into Disney, My Dad and I wouldn’t chose anywhere else to vacation. Of course the grandparents will be there for the first time visit and we slowly having been growing our “family” so we will be spending time with many friends down there this year.

  2. This had me tearing up. I have taken our 2 girls every year starting at 6 months and now my oldest is going to be 4 and she is ready to ride all the big people rides. I know the magic won’t last through the teen years but hope they regain the magic with their own kids. The power of Disney is amazing.

  3. We are taking my oldest, who will be 13 in January, for his next trip in December. It has been three years since our last trip so I’m curious to see how he reacts to everything. My youngest, who will be 2/ 1/2 will be going on his first trip! (Well, outside of the belly since I was 7 weeks pregnant on our last trip!) I am excited for a different trip for all of us, but scared to try to balance a teenager and a toddlers must do lists! I have a feeling he’ll also be excited to share his favorites with his little brother like your son is excited to help his friends.
