The new HBO Max streaming service is getting a Green Lantern series. The service has ordered 10 episodes of the new live-action series.
Executive producer Greg Berlanti is teaming up with showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith for Green Lantern. The series will explore the history of the different heroes who join the corps and tell the stories of heroes like Alan Scott, Kilowog, Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and many more.
Grahame-Smith will be co-writing the series with Arrowverse architect Marc Guggenheim. Grahame-Smith is best known for writing the popular novels Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, as well as his work on the films The LEGO Batman Movie, Child’s Play, as well as IT and IT Chapter Two.
Guggenheim co-created both Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow for The CW. He also has writing credits on many DC TV shows and movies, including the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie.
The official logline from Warner Bros. indicates that many members of the Green Lantern Corps will play a major role in the series. You can see it below:
“From HBO Max, DC, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television comes a bold adaptation of the iconic comic book franchise, a saga spanning decades and galaxies. Green Lantern will depict the adventures of a multitude of Lanterns, including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and Alan Scott — Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man — and many more. The series will also include fan favorites such as Sinestro and Kilowog, and will also introduce new heroes to the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps.”
There are some major names missing from this description, like DC Comics mainstays Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Kyle Rayner. That doesn’t mean those characters won’t appear in the first series, but it seems the show will focus on the group of characters mentioned in the above statement.
Green Lantern doesn’t have a set release date or casting information right now, but fans can expect this one-hour drama series will explore the darkest corners of the universe and the space force tasked with protecting them.
