As previously announced, a fourth Frozen film is in development. The franchise has been a colossal success for Disney, becoming a Thanksgiving tradition. The original Frozen (2013), starring Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, raked in $1.28 billion, while its sequel, Frozen II (2019), grossed an even more impressive $1.45 billion.
Frozen 3 was initially slated for a 2026 release but encountered production delays due to the pandemic and industry strikes. The film, written and co-directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, will now enchant audiences on November 24, 2027.
The Frozen franchise chronicles the lives of two royal sisters, Elsa and Anna, orphaned after their parents, the king and queen of Arendelle, tragically perish. Possessing extraordinary but dangerous ice powers, Elsa is crowned queen, while her adventurous sister, Anna, becomes her loyal companion. Kristen Bell voices Anna, and Idina Menzel brings Elsa’s powerful character to life.
The concept art unveiled at D23 offered a glimpse into the new adventure. Elsa was shown riding one horse, while Anna and the beloved snowman Olaf, voiced by Josh Gad, shared another.
