Bob Iger and Josh Kushner Reportedly Purchase Los Angeles Lakers in $12 Billion Deal
Former Disney CEO Bob Iger is trading Mouse ears for courtside seats. Iger and Thrive Capital founder Josh Kushner have reportedly purchased the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal valued at more than $12 billion, putting the former Disney chief at the helm of one of the most recognizable franchises in professional sports.

The pair purchased the Lakers from Mark Walter, who acquired a controlling interest in the team from the Buss family last year for approximately $10 billion. Iger and Kushner had previously been linked to a possible investment in a future Las Vegas NBA expansion franchise before turning their attention to Los Angeles. In a statement, the new owners called themselves lifelong NBA fans and said they were honored to become stewards of the Lakers, promising a long-term commitment to competing at the highest level and serving the team’s fans and the city.

The move marks another major chapter for Iger following his decades at The Walt Disney Company. Iger retired as Disney CEO in March 2026, though he remains a Senior Advisor and member of Disney’s Board through the end of the year.
