Sorcerer Hat Lights Up Disney’s Hollywood Studios Ahead of Magic of Disney Animation Opening

The magic is officially starting to sparkle at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new Sorcerer Mickey hat being installed as part of The Magic of Disney Animation, recently tested its nighttime lighting, giving guests an early peek at one of the park’s most eye-catching updates.

The oversized blue Sorcerer hat, covered in stars and moons, now features small lights across its surface that illuminate in wave-like patterns after dark. The effect gives the new Walt Disney Studios Courtyard a little extra pixie-dusted personality before the area fully welcomes guests.

The hat is part of the exterior for The Magic of Disney Animation, a reimagined take on the former Disney animation-inspired attraction coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios this summer. Its design is inspired by the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California, while also giving a wink to longtime fans who remember the park’s former giant Sorcerer Mickey hat icon.

The surrounding Animation Courtyard is also being transformed into Walt Disney Studios Courtyard, with details like character autographs and handprints being added into the pavement. Inside The Magic of Disney Animation, guests will be able to meet characters, learn to draw with Olaf, and explore an Alice in Wonderland-themed play area.

While Walt Disney Studios Courtyard is expected to open May 26 alongside the debut of the new Disney Jr. show, Disney has not yet announced an official opening date for The Magic of Disney Animation.

Still, with the hat now glowing after dark, it looks like Disney is putting the finishing sparkle on this Hollywood Studios glow-up.
