Finding Dory” still ranks number one in its third weekend at the box office. This is a huge feat, considering the summer box office always poses lots of big-budget competition. Although Pixar’s last release, “The Good Dinosaur”, didn’t do incredibly well ($331.9 million worldwide), Pixar has come back with a bang with the “Finding Nemo” sequel.

Just this weekend alone, “Finding Dory” has made $41.9 million nationwide (projected to be $50 million by the end of the weekend). Oversees, “Dory” brought in $34.4. million. Overall, the film has made a total of $538.2 worldwide, making it tied with “Finding Nemo” as the 5th highest-grossing animated film of all time. It seems “Finding Dory” could be well on its way to becoming the highest grossing film of all time, considering its already made about half the amount “Frozen” has just by its third weekend!

While Disney has seen a year of amazing financial successes with “Zootopia”, “The Jungle Book”, “Captain America: Civil War”, and now “Finding Dory”, they are now it seems experiencing their second flop of the year. In May, “Alice Through the Looking Glass” made $259.3 million worldwide. This holiday weekend, Disney released its first film made with Stephen Spielberg, “The BFG“, based on the Roald Dahl book of the same name. “The BFG”, while being a critically acclaimed success, seems to be struggling in the box office, only making $23.6 million during the 4-day weekend box office.

Despite these numbers, Disney distribution exec VP Dave Hollis said:

“All of us are very very proud of the film. And are encouraged in the way people responded, from the first screening at Cannes to strong reviews to the CinemaScore. And we are hoping for resilient weekday business because of the availability of the family audience, plus strong business internationally.”
