Ewan McGregor Shares ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi‘ Star Wars Series Will Begin Filming Next Spring. Star Wars fans have been eagerly awaiting news or an update for the highly anticipated, and still untitled, Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+. The Kenobi limited series has been through many delays and hurtles since its inception.
In the beginning the series was actually meant to be a new Star Wars film following Obi-Wan Kenobi as he looks after a young Luke Skywalker, albeit from a distance, to make sure he is not found by Darth Vader or the Empire on Tatooine. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has shared previously that the initial storyline for Kenobi too closely followed the themes of The Mandalorian, so she ordered a rewrite for the series. One aspect that has helped the series development was the downtime for the studio due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and now the studio has begun to resume production.
“Spring next year we start, so I’m really excited about it,” series star, Ewan McGregor shared with Entertainment Tonight when asked about the new filming schedule, “I’m super excited about it, it’s going to be great I think. There’s no talk of [a second season] it’s pretty much as I understand it a standalone season. But we’ll see, who knows?”
