Remy’s Cheesecake from Sunshine Seasons

“Not every cheesecake can be a great cheesecake, but a great cheesecake can come from anywhere.” Maybe that’s not exactly what Anton Ego said in Ratatouille, but it’s true all the same. The film has inspired its own ride in Epcot now and it seems it has also inspired a cheesecake to commemorate the opening of said ride. Rémy’s Cheesecake is undeniably the cutest cheesecake I’ve ever seen, but the question remains: is it a great cheesecake?

The outside of the cheesecake is perfect. It looks exactly like a small wedge of Swiss cheese, complete with orange powder coating and little round holes (or “eyes” to use the correct cheese terminology). It is topped with a dollop of whipped cream and a white chocolate disc with Rémy’s effigy printed on it. The appearance is truly 10/10, very photogenic. I had to restrain myself from picking it up and eating it like a mouse would eat a block of cheese.

That being said, the taste isn’t up to par. The flavor is too light and I couldn’t detect any cream cheese in it. The texture is more mousse-like, definitely not a New York-style cheesecake. Two layers of cookie crumbs could add crunch to the cake but are a bit soft instead. Overall, my kids weren’t disappointed with this dessert, but the adults in our party were expecting more of a cheesecake than this turned out to be.

While I love a good-looking dessert, I can save you $5.49 and advise you to take a picture instead. With so many fantastic desserts in Epcot, not to mention the new crêperie that is also in Rémy’s honor, you’re sure to find something even better around the park. But if you still want to give this one a go, you can find it at Sunshine Seasons in the Land Pavilion for a limited time!
