Emma Stone Could File Lawsuit Against Disney for 'Cruella' Release Strategy

Emma Stone Could File Lawsuit Against Disney for ‘Cruella’ Release Strategy. Moviegoers are on edge regarding the very public lawsuit between Scarlett Johannson and Disney which cites a breach of contract between the star and the studio. Reportedly, Johannson’s team had approached Disney on several occasions throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and was willing to renegotiate her contract with the entertainment conglomerate, but was stonewalled by the team at Disney. Disney ultimately decided to release Marvel Studios’ Black Widow simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access without the consent of or contract renegotiation with Johannson.

Now the pair will be duking it out in court over Johansson’s claims, and it turns out Scarlett is not the only talent poised to sue the studio over the release of a new movie. Several other actors and actresses are in the same position with contracts promising a theater exclusive release, yet studios have made the decision (without including the opinion or contract negotiations of the film’s stars) to release new titles both in theaters and via streaming services.

Another potential Disney lawsuit could come from Emma Stone and her legal team, who also had the same theater exclusive release in her contract for Disney’s Cruella. Reportedly, Ms. Stone is “weighing her options” when it comes to suing Disney, and like Johannson’s Tower of Terror live-action movie remake, Stone does have other projects in the works with Disney that could be an incentive for her to either pass on a lawsuit or establish her boundaries with the company in the future.
