A New Look for Downtown Disney: Expansion Construction Update

Exciting changes are taking shape on the west side of Downtown Disney! We’re seeing significant progress at the sites of the former Tortilla Jo’s and ESPN Zone, and the new Earl of Sandwich is steadily moving forward.

Rather than a complete demolition, the former Tortilla Jo’s building is undergoing a significant transformation, with its second story being removed. The exposed framework of the top level reveals the shift towards a mid-century modern aesthetic, aligning it with the rest of the evolving shopping district.

Looking at the front of the building, where Tortilla Jo’s quick service once stood, the removal of the large themed tower down to its metal structure offers a clearer perspective on the upcoming Arthur & Sons restaurant, especially with concept art now visible on the construction fence.

Over on the east side, facing Splitsville, the transformation into Pearl’s Roadhouse BBQ is even more apparent, with exposed metal beams revealing the early stages of its construction. Both Pearl’s Roadhouse BBQ and the upcoming Arthur & Sons Steak and Bourbon are exciting new concepts brought to life by Michelin-starred Chef Joe Isidori.

Pearl’s Roadhouse BBQ promises to deliver beloved BBQ staples like pulled pork, beef brisket, and smoked turkey, while Arthur & Sons aims to provide guests with a refined and classic steakhouse experience.

The former ESPN Zone building, a sizable two-story structure, is being reimagined to house multiple distinct experiences, sparking anticipation for what exciting new concepts will occupy this prime location.

The scrims have now been removed from the former front entrance, revealing a significant exterior change. Nearly all the visible brickwork has been painted white, giving the building a fresh, clean aesthetic that harmonizes with the bright, mid-century inspired architecture recently introduced to Downtown Disney’s west side. Adding a touch of color, vibrant bands now adorn the upper sections of the building’s four prominent columns.

The north side of the building, facing the resort’s expansive parking structure, continues to showcase the white paint and vibrant accents. In contrast, the south side, directly across from Din Tai Fung, remains largely concealed behind scrim. However, closer to the Disneyland Hotel, some of the original brickwork is still visible.

Also taking shape in the west end of Downtown Disney is the new Earl of Sandwich building. The new building will be two stories. The ground level will feature a quick-service Earl of Sandwich, while the upper level will be a table-service gastropub. Guests visiting Downtown Disney right now can see the shell of the building along with scrim up around it.

Are you looking forward to seeing the construction finished at Downtown Disney?
