Disney revealed the news on Instagram with the caption, “You’ve got a friend in us,” hinting that this seasonal story will carry the warmth and whimsy fans have come to expect from Waititi’s storytelling style, with perhaps a Toy Story tie-in?
This isn’t Waititi’s first foray into Disney holiday storytelling. In 2024, he directed The Boy and the Octopus, a touching tale about a young boy who befriends a curious sea creature that attaches itself to his head during a seaside vacation. The short quickly became a fan favorite for its heartfelt tone and signature Waititi humor.

While plot details for Best Christmas Ever remain under wraps, fans are already speculating that it could combine Waititi’s trademark charm with Pixar-style emotion — and maybe even a few unexpected surprises. After all, if there’s one thing the Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit director knows how to do, it’s tell a story that makes us laugh, cry, and believe in a little movie magic.
