Disney’s Contemporary Resort Lobby Construction is now complete. DIsney just blew our minds! When we woke up this morning, we did not have a clue that sometime overnight they had finished the Contemporary Resort Lobby, and removed all the walls. When word spread that the Lobby had reopened, we raced over to check out the new Lobby, and we are here to tell you that we are fully impressed!
We have the images to show you why we were so impressed. The new lobby is a full-on tribute to one of the biggest female artists in Disney History, and we think well deserved. If you know the history of the Contemporary at all, then you can already name this amazing artist. Mary Blair. The Designer of “it’s a small world”, the artist of a bunch of Golden Books, the same artist who created the Murals in the Contemporary Resort.
Mary Blair helped introduce modern art to Walt Disney and his Studio, and, for nearly 30 years, he touted her inspirational work for his films and theme parks alike.

When we spoke to the Cast Members who run the lobby at the Contemporary resort, they explained the thought process surrounding the refurbishment of the resort. “If you know the history of the Contemporary Resort, you know it is an extension of Tomorrowland. The Lobby and new Steakhouse are a throwback nod to the history of the resort from 1971. The newly refurbished rooms, which are Incredible themed, are the perfect example of Past meets Future. The Lobby represents and is an homage to Mary Blair and her importance to the history and the future of the Contemporary”
If you ask me, which you didn’t, they should seriously consider just renaming it to The Mary Blair Contemporary. Her work is showing up everywhere around Walt Disney World right now, including the new banners installed in front of Cinderella Castle. Seriously, if you do not know her history, please spend some time and research her. You will be delighted with the results. Contemporary Resort Lobby is just an amazing example of what Disney can do when they care about a project.
