Disneyland Halts RunDisney Events Following 2026 Race Weekend
Disneyland Resort is gearing up for significant future developments, necessitating a pause in its popular runDisney race events. As a result of extensive upcoming construction projects aimed at enhancing the park experience, the exhilarating races, which have drawn countless runners and Disney enthusiasts, will be placed on hiatus beginning after the 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend.

runDisney has released the following statement:
“Due to upcoming construction impacts, runDisney races at the resort will be placed on hiatus in 2026 after the conclusion of the 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend.
One of the things runDisney participants enjoy most about our races is running through our theme parks as they enjoy special entertainment and character experiences. Due to upcoming construction impacts, we will be unable to provide guests with the race experience that our participants have come to expect from our events.
For fans who love to experience runDisney events, we will continue to offer races at Walt Disney World Resort, as well as virtual offerings.”

For now, the eagerly anticipated 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend will still take place, providing runners with one last chance to participate in these events before the pause. Moreover, the Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend is set to bring spooky fun to runners this fall. Looking ahead, however, the hiatus on runDisney races could be lengthy, as it coincides with the beginning and ongoing progress of the extensive DisneylandForward project, suggesting a considerable period before their potential return.
Disneyland Resort’s numerous planned construction endeavors, most notably the DisneylandForward expansion project, will prevent the hosting of runDisney races. The Anaheim City Council granted final approval for this significant initiative in May 2024, after an initial vote of support in April of the same year. The approved plan then went into effect on June 7th, 30 days following the final vote, signaling a period of intense development that necessitates the suspension of large-scale events like the runDisney races.
Disneyland Resort is now facing its second major interruption of runDisney races. After a welcome return in 2024, which followed a seven-year hiatus and included the popular Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend and the debut of the Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend that fall, the running events are once again facing a significant pause due to upcoming construction.
Will you be participating in either of the Disneyland races before they are put on hold?
