Disneyland Abu Dhabi Will Use “Biomes” Instead of Traditional Lands
Disneyland Abu Dhabi is already breaking from Disney tradition. New details revealed in the Disney+ documentary “Disney Worldbuilders” show that the upcoming park will be divided into “biomes” instead of the traditional themed lands found at Disney parks around the world.

Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald explained that the idea was inspired by Abu Dhabi itself. The region’s diverse environments, including deserts and coral reefs, helped shape the concept of organizing the park around different settings rather than familiar areas like Fantasyland, Adventureland, or Tomorrowland.
Disney believes those environments can become the backdrop for its many stories and characters, giving Imagineers a new way to organize attractions across the park. It is a major change from the formula Disney has used since Disneyland opened in 1955 and could give Disneyland Abu Dhabi a completely different feel from the company’s other castle parks.

Disney announced the Abu Dhabi resort in May 2025, with Miral developing and operating the destination and Walt Disney Imagineering handling the creative design. The project is still years away, but the biome concept gives us our clearest look yet at how different this new Disney destination could be.
