If you have ever caught yourself standing in awe under the floating mountains of Pandora, dodging Stormtroopers in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, or stepping through the vibrant streets of Zootopia, you know that Disney’s real-world experiences are built on pure storytelling magic. Now, a brand-new Disney+ feature documentary is pulling back the curtain to show exactly how those legendary worlds are brought to life.

Disney has officially announced Disney Worldbuilders, an upcoming feature-length documentary directed by Academy Award- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Leslie Iwerks (the creative mind behind The Imagineering Story and Disneyland Handcrafted). Arriving on Disney+ this August, the documentary examines how Disney’s most iconic stories make the jump from the silver screen into immersive theme park lands, attractions, and global destinations.

A Star-Studded Creative Roster

To tell the story of Disney’s worldbuilding evolution, Iwerks sits down for intimate, behind-the-scenes conversations with some of the most influential storytellers, directors, and executives across The Walt Disney Company.

Viewers will hear directly from legendary creators as they share personal reflections on their earliest sparks of inspiration, formative Disney memories, and the creative hurdles of physicalizing imagination:

Fans heading to Anaheim, California, for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event will get the very first look at the documentary!

On August 16, 2026, Disney will host a special panel presentation at the Anaheim Convention Center featuring several of the celebrated storytellers showcased in the film. Attendees will hear firsthand insights into the creative process before being treated to an advance premiere screening of Disney Worldbuilders ahead of its official Disney+ release later in August.
