Disney World Union Cast Members Set to Reject Disney’s Contract Offer Over Wage Disputes. Service Trades Council Union members at Disney represent around 45,000 employees. In a press release today they informed the Council Members to vote NO on Disney’s latest offer. They have been working without a contract since October 1st, 2022.

Disney is proposing raises of $1 a year for most workers, but $1 is not enough to pay for the cost-of-living crisis that workers are facing in Central Florida. Rent and other expenses have skyrocketed, leaving workers in a state of emergency. This offer leaves behind a clear majority of the workforce and would offer only a $1 raise to over 30,000 cast members.”

But Disney said 25% of non-tipped STCU roles will reach $20 an hour wages in the first year of the contract with nearly one-third of STCU cast members seeing an hourly wage increase by 16%.

Disney’s offer also includes the current pension and introduces an additional 401K option.

The union is letting members decide how to vote but is urging a NO vote. Saying a $1 dollar an-hour raise is not enough to sustain the cost of living increase. As evidence supports a starting wage of $18.00 dollars an hour.

In a statement to FOX 35, a Disney spokesperson said, “This very strong offer provides our Cast Members with a nearly 10% average increase immediately and guaranteed raises for the next four years with every single non-tipped Cast Member promised at least a $20 starting wage during the contract, and the majority seeing a 33% to 46% increase during that time.”

Disney Management presented Union Representatives its “best” offer today. The offer on wages is largely the same as the original offer that only provides an initial $1.00 increase for all Local 362 Union Cast Members. The leadership of all six (6) unions of the STCU are unanimously recommending workers vote NO on this offer.

Disney workers are facing extreme financial difficulties including inflation, which has caused the price of food and rent to skyrocket. $16.00 per hour in 2023 does not keep up with the rising cost of living. Every worker needs an initial raise larger than $1.00 to address these concerns.
A vote of Union members will be held on February 2 and 3, 2023. Details on locations will be released at a later date.
