It looks like a Disney Springs Sheriff’s Office is going to get some sort of an update. A notice posted by the Orange County Comptroller’s Office filed by the Reedy Creek Improvement District is for an Orange County Sheriff’s Office in the Disney Springs area of the Walt Disney World Resort.
The permit filed by Reedy Creek is for an “Interior Buildout of Orange County Sheriff’s Office,” with the location sited as building 28 in the Town Center area of Disney Springs. This could mean the Sheriff’s Office located near the Lime Garage.
Once a Notice of Commencement is filed, work usually begins fairly quickly. And, unless otherwise noted, the permit has a one year expiration date – meaning we should see completion of the project by August 30, 2019, if not sooner.
It’s not yet know what this means as far as law enforcement at Disney Springs is concerned. That area is less “protected” than the four theme parks as there are no security entrances required to enter the area. It also does not require a ticket to enter, meaning there is less of a record that you were ever there.
Add in the fact that Disney Springs was a location the Pulse Nightclub gunman, Omar Mateen, had consider it seems like a logical choice to add more of a Sheriff’s Office presence.
But this could end up as just a standard refurbishment. Or it could mean a larger law enforcement presence or one with more resources available to them.
