First Look Inside the New Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern at Magic Kingdom
Ahoy, Disney fans! Walt Disney Imagineering has been hard at work bringing an all-new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern to Magic Kingdom, and we’ve just gotten our first peek inside thanks to a new behind-the-scenes video. The sneak preview, shared on Instagram by Walt Disney Imagineering, gives a glimpse of the ongoing construction and an exciting full-circle moment for one of the Imagineers working on the project.

In the video, Montse, an Assistant Producer for Disney Imagineering, shares how she started as a Cast Member at the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction before transitioning to Imagineering, where she now helps bring the new pirate lounge to life. The footage showcases different areas of the tavern, including the bar area and the Captain’s Quarters, both of which are still under construction. While walls are framed and electrical and plumbing work is in progress, the vision for this pirate hideaway is starting to take shape.
One of the most exciting details revealed? The return of the legendary Barker Bird, also known as Peg-Leg Pete! This beloved Audio-Animatronic parrot originally sat outside the attraction’s entrance, entertaining guests with pirate banter before being removed in 2006 during the ride’s update to include Captain Jack Sparrow. Fans have long speculated about his return, and now it’s official—Barker Bird will take his new perch above the tavern’s bar area, bringing a bit of nostalgia and pirate charm to the space.

The Pirates of the Caribbean tavern is being built near the attraction’s exit and is expected to open in late 2025. While Disney has yet to reveal details about the menu or theme, this new watering hole is already shaping up to be an exciting addition to Adventureland.
