It looks like Disney has decided to shuffle a few release dates around for 2013. Find out why after the jump.
With yesterday’s announcement that Disney is finally moving forward with ‘The Lone Ranger’, it appears there has been a shuffling of release dates. As I had speculated, Disney has decided to push back ‘The Lone Ranger’ from Christmas 2012 to May 15, 2013. The move isn’t terribly unsurprising since the movie won’t start shooting until February of 2012, instead of this November as originally planned. Armie Hammer is still set to play the Lone Ranger, and Johnny Depp is still set to play Tonoto, his fearless sidekick. With this, ‘Thor 2’, Marvel’s sequel to this summer’s hit has been pushed back from July 26, 2013 to November 15, 2013. A lot of this may have to do with them landing a new director for the project, so they don’t want to rush the production. I’m all for the change, as long it’s to make the movie better. Chris Hemsworth is set to return as the hammer wielding God of Thunder, as well as Tom Hiddleston as his brother Loki. The film is set to be directed by Patty Jenkins. But July 26 won’t be void of a Disney film, as Disney has decided to release ‘Phineas and Ferb: The Movie’ on July 26. This is great news for the fans of the series, because it shows Disney has faith to put the movie up in a prime summer slot against bigger movies such as ‘Pacific Rim’. I’m excited to see ‘Phineas and Ferb’ on the big screen, so I’m glad to see they’re making it a summer event. These release date shifts shouldn’t be anything for anyone to worry about, and I’m glad they’re all going to be spaced out over the year instead of all of them hitting around the same time. What movie are you all most excited about? And does it bother you that the movies have gotten new release dates? Sound off in the comments below!
