Disney World Quick Tips - Mousekeeping

Here’s a Disney World Quick Tip!

Tipping is an important part of my Walt Disney World budget planning. I budget for Mousekeeping, bell service, and food servers at all my favorite table service restaurants. Each day, I leave a special Mousekeeping envelope with a few dollars inside when we leave  for the day, and I have been blessed with awesome mousekeeping staff when I have traveled.

Now, making towel animals is not a prerequisite for landing a job with the Disney mousekeeping department, but I wanted to share the treasures that Susan and I found waiting for us after long days in the parks. Our special room attendant, Gilma, at the Port Orleans Riverside left us these special mood boosters each day of our stay.

On Thursday, we received a rose.

On Friday, it was sweet swans.

Aside from the artistic gifts, when they have the special talent, Mousekeeping is there to help make your stay better. Here are some tips on ways they can help you. If you need bed boards, bed rails, extra pillows and blankets, baby cribs, safety outlet coers, extra hangers, or to request that your room be cleaned at a specific time, touch HOUSEKEEPING on your in-room phone. If you have forgotten anything at home, or if there is any way they can help to make your stay more enjoyable, I have found often that they are happy to help.

When we were leaving on Sunday, we got to meet Gilma and thank her personally for all our treasures and for taking good care of us. Thank you, Gilma, for giving us that extra special something to come home to each day! We really appreciated it!

  1. We had the same issue once at the Pop Century Resort. We went for a week and everyday my daughter would see those washcloth creations in the windows of other rooms and everyday she would say “maybe I’ll get one today??” in a very hopeful tone of voice. Each day that went by without one she got a little more disappointed. On our last day, I called down to the front desk and explained my daughter’s disappointment (very kindly) and we came back from breakfast to a very elaborate bear creation made with three washclothes and stick on googly eyes! Sometimes you just need to ask nicely. Disney has always worked hard to meet our expectations. 🙂

  2. Those are really cute! I’m sure they made your family feel very special. THAT is customer service that deserves a good tip!

  3. We have had great experiences with Mousekeeping. Once they made a toothbrush holder out of towels, very neat. They always arrange my daughter’s stuffed animals into cute “scenes”. One year we were the family of the day, we got a certificate and a rubik’s cube. On our last visit we found an autographed picture of Mickey waiting for us.

  4. I would take a stuffed animal or two-I find mine acting out scenes sometimes when we get back. I have only stayed at the value resorts (Pop Century and All Star Music) and I only got some swans once. I always buy a little stuffed toy though as my keepsake and when I was at Pop Century I would usually find it hidden somewhere cute though-I once found my Figment watching TV with the remote and the next day it was looking in the mirror and the last day he was waiting in the chair holding the towel art swans 🙂

  5. I have read that people also like to make homemade thank you card for special cast members. I’m having my kids start that soon!

  6. Would the bed rails be for a little one so they don’t fall out of bed? If they are how can I get them. Just ask housekeeping.

  7. When we stayed at Riverside, we didn’t get any animals…it was a great disappointment! We loved the location and the hotel though=)
