Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Connects to Fortnite With New Star Wars Adventure

The adventure aboard the Millennium Falcon is no longer ending when you step off the ride. Disney has launched Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite, a new connected experience linking the attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park with an original Star Wars adventure inside Fortnite called Smugglers Gambit. The new experience officially launched August 16, giving guests another way to keep working for everyone’s favorite questionable businessman, Hondo Ohnaka.

Guests can accept a special mission while waiting in the queue for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run using the My Disney Experience app at Walt Disney World or the Disneyland app in California. During the attraction, crews help collect crates for Hondo, and those crates can unlock rewards that carry over into Fortnite. Guests who link an eligible MyDisney account with an Epic Games account can claim post-ride rewards, including a Forsworn Trooper Outfit. Disney says guests who are unable to link accounts can instead redeem a code in Fortnite for their reward.

The digital side of the adventure takes place in Smugglers Gambit, a brand-new Fortnite island developed in-house by Disney Games and Digital Entertainment with Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Imagineering. Players travel to Mersa Veta Station on the planet Ord Ryla, where they can team up for co-op missions, battle pirates and remnants of the Empire, encounter dangerous wildlife, unlock new gear, and build their reputation across the Outer Rim. In true Hondo fashion, there are plenty of chances for the job to go perfectly according to plan, or tumble straight into a Sarlacc-sized mess.

Disney says the project uses Unreal Engine 5 and represents an early example of how physical Disney Parks experiences could connect with digital worlds. Guests can begin the story in Fortnite before visiting Batuu or continue their mission after riding Smugglers Run, creating one adventure that stretches from the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon to the screen at home. The experience is included at no additional cost with valid theme park admission, while Fortnite itself remains free to download.
