It looks like the public duel between Disney and director Gore Verbinski, actor Johnny Depp, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer has finally reached it’s end. After Disney pulled the plug on the trios project, a public battle over the budget heated up the news and the fate of the project looked bleak. Depp went public and said he wouldn’t do the project without Verbinksi, which put the project, and Disney, in a corner. But it looks like all parties have come to a mutual agreement, and Disney is looking to move forward with ‘Lone Ranger’!
Deadline is, once again, the first to report the news. After the major overhaul of the script, story, and budget, Disney was able to come to an agreement and the company is looking to make the announcement next week. The project is still set to star Armie Hammer as the Ranger, and Johnny Depp as his sidekick Tonto, with Gore Verbinksi at the helm. But the flip side of the film’s narrative is that it will be told from the point of view of Tonto, not the Ranger. Which isn’t a huge surprise when you have someone like Depp starring in the film. But I have to say, I’m really glad to see the kinks have been worked out and ‘Lone Ranger’ is moving forward. This is a movie I’ve really been looking forward to, so this is great news. I’m glad to see that all involved could agree, because this would have been a sad project to lose, because it has so much potential.
‘Lone Ranger’ is looking to shoot in early 2012, possibly for an early or summer 2013 release.
