Disney Lost Nearly $600 Million in Revenue Due to 'Black Widow' Pirating

Marvel movies and shows have dominated torrenting sites throughout 2021, and now a report from Deadline claims Marvel Studios’ Black Widow may have lost nearly double its global box office earnings due to pirated downloads. The report claims Black Widow was downloaded a whopping 20+ Million viewers, which in standard ticket pricing means Disney and Marvel Studios lost out on roughly $600 Million in revenue for the film.

To date, Black Widow has amassed $379.6 Million globally at the box office during its theatrical run and was one of the most successful movie released in 2021. Overall, Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home account for 30% of box office earnings in 2021 so it doesn’t come as a surprise that viewers who may not have had access to theaters or live in countries that were not permitted to feature the film throughout the pandemic were keen on watching the new installments of the MCU.
