Disney Legend Ming-Na Wen Makes a Surprise Cameo in Live-Action ‘Mulan‘. Disney’s live-action Mulan is no streaming via Disney+ Premier Access, and eagle eye fans were quick to point out a special cameo from Disney Legend Ming-Na Wen. Many Disney fans know Ming-Na as the original voice of Mulan in the animated film, as well as for her role as Agent May in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC.
Even more of a surprise to fans was the fact that her appearance almost didn’t happen and that she was intended to play a different part in the film, but a scheduling conflict with the filming for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. lead to the newly appointed role in the film. Ming-Na’s story was shared via Disney+ social media, with a behind the scenes photo on set of and the caption:
“Who is that girl I see?
Ming-Na shared with THR that when she shared the news of the original idea for her cameo in the film with her producers at Marvel and ABC there were obvious scheduling issues that prevented her from taking on a bigger role in the film. “The producers of Agents of SHIELD just threw up their hands: ‘We can’t lose you for a month!'” Wen explained. “I totally understood, and I’m always very Zen about this stuff. I said, ‘Look, if it was meant to be, it was meant to be. We all tried and it’s too bad.'”
