Disney is Working on a Live-Action Remake of ‘Flash Gordon’. Rumors had been swirling that a Flash Gordon remake was in the works at 20th Century Studios before the acquisition by Disney and now we have a new development! Disney has announced the remake will be a live-action film and Oscar-Winning Director Taika Waititi has signed on to write and direct the project.
Producer John Davis shared with Collider, “Taika is writing it. It was a movie that was a huge influence on him growing up. It is one of his favorite movies. He initially said to me, ‘Let’s do it animated.’ I said, ‘Okay.’ Then we got into it and started developing it, and he said, ‘No, let’s do it live-action.’ I said, ‘Even better.’”
It is currently unknown if the film will premiere in theaters or become an exclusive title on the popular streaming service Disney+. This is a developing story, so be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for all things Disney!
