Disney Genie, Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane debuted today at Walt Disney World. We were on hand at the Magic Kingdom today to try it out.
Disney Genie and Disney Genie+ service are conveniently built into the My Disney Experience mobile app. Once you log into your Disney account, these services magically make your theme park visit easier and more fun. It’s like having your own personal genie in the palm of your hand.
Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, Disney Genie can help you get the most of your visit to Walt Disney World Resort.

I tested out the Disney Genie service this morning and shared the video on our Facebook page.
The complimentary Disney Genie service creates your best Disney day inspired by your party’s top interests. It also grants you new planning features, including a personalized itinerary creator that seamlessly and smartly maps out your visit with updates that continue from morning to night. And, Disney Genie can even remind you when you’re eligible to make dining and activity reservations in advance.
Guests also have the option to choose the Disney Genie+. In addition to getting all of the great features that come with the complimentary Disney Genie service, purchasing the Disney Genie+ service will offer even more convenience and flexibility, for $15 per ticket per day. It’s a good way to get the most out of your visit—so you can spend more time enjoying the magic with family and friends.
Similar to the FastPass system that used to be available at Disneyland, Disney Genie+ will allow guests to select arrival windows for Lightning Lane entrances available at attractions across the parks, one at a time throughout the day. Guests with Park Hopper access will be able to use this service at multiple parks in a single day.

The new Lightning Lane entrances have debuted at a wide variety of attractions and entertainment experiences, and are available through 2 options, which can be combined.
Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane Selections
When you take your day to the next level by purchasing Disney Genie+ service, you can select the next available arrival window for select Lightning Lane attractions and entertainment all day long. There are more than 40 experiences across all 4 theme parks that are eligible!
You can enjoy a Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane experience once per day. If you’d like to re-ride an attraction or see a certain show again within the same day, you are welcome to use our regular standby line.
Price
Disney Genie+ service will be available for $15 per Guest per day.
How to Purchase
- Before Your Visit:
Available as an add-on to a ticket or vacation package for the duration of visit. Purchase via Disneyworld.com or authorized travel professionals. - Same Day of Visit:
Available for single-day use for existing ticket holders or Annual Passholders. Purchase via Disney Genie service in the My Disney Experience mobile app.
When to Select Attractions
Once you have Disney Genie+ service, you can select the next available arrival window for your first experience via the My Disney Experience mobile app beginning at 7:00 AM on the day of your visit.
Once you’ve redeemed your initial selection (or the arrival window has passed), you can use the app to check your My Day itinerary or Tip Board to see when you’re eligible to make another selection. You can make selections all day up to regular park closing.

Individual Lightning Lane Selections
For some of our most highly demanded attractions, Lightning Lane entry will be available to purchase individually. Guests may purchase and select an arrival window one at a time for up to 2 attractions a day. This option will be available for all Guests—with or without Disney Genie+ service.

Pricing and availability will vary by date and attraction. Be sure to check the My Disney Experience app on the day of your visit for current prices and attraction availability.
How to Purchase
You can make individual purchases within the Disney Genie Service Tip Board or My Day itinerary in the app on the same day of your visit.
When to Select Attractions
You can purchase individual selections for up to 2 different attractions per day.
- Guests of a Disney Resort Hotel and Other Select Hotels: These Guests can make their first purchase starting at 7:00 AM on the day of their visit. Available to Disney Resort hotel Guests and Guests of Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels and Shades of Green.
- All Other Guests: These Guests can make their first purchase when the park opens.
We noticed that standby lines at the Magic Kingdom were slightly longer than normal during the transition. Meanwhile, Lightning Lane lines were hit or miss. For example, the Lightning Lane for Seven Dwarf Mine Train was long, the wait time just for the Lightning Lane was 45 mins. While over at Space Mountain the line was maybe 15-20 mins.
We are seeing reports that many of the big-ticket items like Rise of the Resistance are sold out for the day. So if you are not at the parks early there is a good chance you won’t be able to experience those attractions.
Keep in mind this is the first day for Disney Genie, Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane so you can expect to see some hiccups with the service and longer wait times.
