New Construction Permit Filed for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT

Something is brewing on the other side of the galaxy at EPCOT. Walt Disney World has filed a new construction permit for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, calling for “general construction” at the popular attraction and listing Coastal Steel as the contractor. Coastal Steel has previously worked on roller coaster and themed construction projects around Walt Disney World, making this particular permit a little more interesting than your average maintenance filing.

The permit was filed through Disney’s Facility Asset Management team rather than Walt Disney Imagineering, which points more toward maintenance or repair work than a major change to the attraction. Exactly what the steel work will involve has not been revealed, and there is currently no indication that Star-Lord is getting a new mixtape, a new mission, or any other substantial update.

The big question, of course, is whether the work could result in some downtime for Cosmic Rewind. As of August 16, Disney has not announced a refurbishment or upcoming closure for the EPCOT coaster. Disney’s official attraction page continues to list regular operating hours, so there is no reason at this point for guests with upcoming trips to panic and start rewriting their EPCOT plans. Depending on the scope and location of the work, it could potentially be handled without a lengthy interruption to the attraction.
