Fresh Construction Permit Filed for Disney’s New Indiana Jones Attraction
Disney has officially filed a new Notice of Commencement for Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, the flagship attraction set to replace DINOSAUR inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Filed with Orange County, the new permit lists the address as 501 Restaurantosaurus Road, which corresponds to the current DINOSAUR show building.
The permit contracts Buena Vista Construction Company—Disney’s internal construction arm—to handle “labor, material, and/or electrical for construction.” Notably, the documentation was submitted directly by Walt Disney World Resort rather than Walt Disney Imagineering, indicating that work on site is transitioning into general structural and electrical installation alongside ongoing scenic development.
This latest filing follows permit extensions Disney secured earlier this summer covering broad construction and thematic work for the attraction’s footprint.
Guests in the park are already starting to see physical signs of transformation. Aerial photos and ground-level progress show that elements of the attraction’s massive, colorful Maya temple facade are currently being installed on the exterior of the former Dino Institute building. The colorful stonework and intricate relief carvings match the detailed miniature model revealed at D23.
Once complete, Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent will feature an original storyline created specifically for Animal Kingdom:
- The Story: Indy has discovered a newly uncovered Maya temple near an underground cavern. Local legend warns that the site conceals a passage to the Maya Underworld, guarded by the mythical serpent deity Tsukán.
- Audio-Animatronics: The ride will feature a towering Tsukán Audio-Animatronic figure, as well as an Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronic modeled directly after Harrison Ford’s likeness—marking the first time Ford’s face has been officially licensed for an Indiana Jones ride in any Disney park worldwide.
The Indiana Jones attraction is the centerpiece of Pueblo Esperanza, the 11-acre Tropical Americas land transforming DinoLand U.S.A. The land will also feature a new Encanto-themed attraction centered around the Madrigal family’s Casita, El Carrusel de los Animalitos, and a large quick-service dining location.
While Disney has not finalized an exact opening date following subtle updates to destination marketing materials, active permit filings and ongoing facade assembly confirm that site prep and building conversions are moving forward at full speed.
