Disney Executives Are Debating Over Adding Adult Content to "Family Friendly" Disney+

Disney Executives Are Debating Over Adding Adult Content to “Family Friendly” Disney+. Rumors had been swirling for months that Disney CEO Bob Chapek was interested in introducing content rated for older audiences to the Disney+ streaming service, and though those rumors appear to be true, other Disney Chairmen are not convinced by the idea.

Though Disney already offers a service similar to this with Star in international markets, the US equivalent Hulu is currently featured as a separate entity and Disney Chairman Bob Iger seems to believe Disney+ and Hulu should remain individual services to keep Disney+ “Family Friendly” putting him at odds with the current Disney CEO, Chapek.

The reported argument between the two camps was shared in a post by entertainment reporter Dylan Byers from Puck who revealed, “Bob Iger ‘insisted on sticking to the narrow definition,’ one of those sources told me. Chapek ‘intends to expand it,’ but the anxiety among some insiders is that the famously data-driven Chapek lacks the creative vision to do it the right way.”

Iger isn’t the only one concerned by Chapek’s tendency to look at the numbers or claim a lack of creative vision could spell demise for the entertainment conglomerate. Currently, a petition that was created by a former Walt Disney Imagineer has garnished over 71k signatures and continues to climb as fans share their distaste for Chapek’s changes to the company, film and television studios, theme parks, and streaming services.

Do you think the Disney Executive team should consider the change? Or do you prefer the two entities remain seperate? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for updates and all things Disney+!
