Disney Cruise Line’s Castaway Cay Named Best Private Island

Castaway Cay

For the third year in a row, Cruise Critic’s Cruisers Choice Destination Award for best Cruise Line Private Island Destination goes to Disney Cruise Line’s Castaway Cay. The Bahamian Island of Castaway Cay is one of the most popular ports-of-call for Disney Cruise Line sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean.

Also recognized by Cruise Critic were several other ports-of-call frequented by Disney Cruise Line. Among the top five destinations in various geographical categories, the following were noted:

  • Skagway, Alaska
  • Juneau, Alaska
  • Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
  • Mazatlan, Mexico
  • St. Maarten, BVI
  • St. Thomas, USVI
  • Cozumel, Mexico
  • Grand Cayman
  • St. Petersburg, Russia
  • Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Belfast, Ireland

Cruise Critic’s Cruisers’s Choice Destination Awards are decided by reviews submitted by cruisers to the Cruise Critic website from June 1, 2017 to May 31, 2018. Many members of the site stated Castaway Cay has the best beaches, activities, and food offerings vs. other cruise line’s private islands.

Castaway Cay invites cruisers to enjoy balmy tropical weather and world-class recreation on a Bahamian oasis with signature Disney hospitality. After disembarking on Castaway Cay, you can obtain beach towels and use your convenient Key to the World cards for retail transactions on the island. Island Preservation
Disney Cruise Line does its part to preserve this pristine island with clear turquoise waters, white-sand beaches and swaying palm trees. Castaway Cay researchers are restoring the health of coral reefs by transplanting long-spined sea urchins and fostering their growth. Disney Cruise Line Crew Members help protect and monitor endangered loggerhead sea turtle nests on Castaway Cay.

Solar panels in backstage areas of Castaway Cay are used to fuel water heaters for bathing, dishwashing and laundry for Crew Members living on the island. Additionally, Disney Cruise Line recycles 7,000 pounds of used cooking oil each week to power a fleet of Bahamas Waste Management vehicles in Nassau.
