Disney Creating A New Movie Musical Called ‘Marley’ Based on the Story of ‘A Christmas Carol‘. In a new telling of the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, Disney has paired with Beauty and the Beast Director, Bill Condon, and Academy Award Winning composer, Stephen Schwartz, to share this classic Christmas story, but this time with a musical twist and from the perspective of Scrooge’s old business partner and miser, Jacob Marley.

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) shared the news and gave this description of the film:

“Titled ‘Marley’, the feature aims to reinvent the well-known story by conveying it through the eyes of Jacob Marley, the deceased business partner of Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge, of course, is the cold-hearted miser who, in the bulk of Charles Dickens’ classic, is visited by the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future, who give him a chance to change his ways. Marley’s apparition, weighed down by chains and endless torment, visits Scrooge and foretells the man of his impending ghostly visits.”

If the project gets the greenligiht from Disney, Bill Condon is set to direct the film, with Stephen Schwartz composing the films soundtrack, and Dan Jinks and Greg Yolen producing the project.

Marley would be far from the first iteration of A Christmas Carol for Disney, but would be the first film to focus directly on Jacob Marley’s character. It is currently unknown if Marley would be set to release in theaters or would premiere on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+.
