Disney has confirmed that Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure will be opening in 2021. Marvel’s Avengers Campus was originally supposed to open at the Disneyland Resort in June 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic closure.

The OC Register is now reporting that Disney will be opening the new land sometime this year. The opening date had been pushed back to an indefinite “coming soon” but now is confirmed for 2021. Even though the year is confirmed, we still don’t know what exact day the Marvel-themed land will open.

A few questions remain unanswered. We still don’t know when the Disneyland Resort will be allowed to reopen, and will Avengers Campus debut when Disney California Adventure reopens or at a later date?

Debuting a new land as soon as the theme parks reopen might help drive attendance to the parks. But the state of California would most likely disapprove of that. It could cause COVID numbers to rise. If and when Disneyland reopens, there will likely still be state-mandated capacity limits and other regulations the parks have to follow.

Last fall Disney designated Marvel’s Avengers Campus as a “priority project” amid major budget cuts in the company’s theme park division. Avengers Campus seems to be almost finished based on photos Disney released last year.

The land is set to open in phases. The first phase will open with the new Spider-Man dark ride, a Doctor Strange special effects show, Ant-Man and the Wasp themed restaurant, and Marvel character meet-and-greets and rooftop shows. The second phase will open sometime later with an E-ticket Avengers attraction.

Now that Disney has confirmed that Avengers Campus will open this year, we just need to know when Disneyland Resort will reopen!
