Disney Channel Partners with The Red Cross for National Preparedness Month

With the start of the new school year and the fall season, it’s never been a more perfect time to get the family together and prepare for emergencies, wherever you are in the country.

And since September is National Preparedness Month, Disney is kicking off an expanded collaboration with the American Red Cross to help kids and families get prepared before disasters strike.

Making its inaugural debut this year is Mickey and Friends Disaster Preparedness Activity Book, developed by the American Red Cross and Disney to teach kids and families how to prepare for and respond to a wide range of emergencies, all while incorporating games and activities. The book is available to download in Spanish and English.

Disney Channel star Debby Ryan is also lending a hand to help families prepare for the unexpected in a Disney Friends for Change interstitial. Available online and airing on Disney Channel throughout the entire month learn three easy steps to get prepared: Get a kit, make a plan, and be informed!

Along with the on-air and online support, Disney also provided a grant to expand The Pillowcase Project, a program—piloted in New Orleans and Los Angeles last year with a $1 million investment from Disney— that teaches children to pack essential items into a pillowcase for easy transport in times of emergencies.

The donation of Mickey Mouse plush dolls for kids during disaster-relief operations and hundreds of hours of volunteer service through the Disney VoluntEARS program are also ways we help comfort kids and families during difficult times.
