Disney Backs Stephanie Murphy with $100,000 Donation in Orange County Mayor’s Race
The race to become Orange County’s next mayor just received a major financial boost, with Disney Experiences making a $100,000 campaign donation to former U.S. Representative Stephanie Murphy. The contribution is believed to be Disney’s largest ever donation to a local political candidate and comes as the 2026 mayoral race is shaping up to be one of the most expensive in county history.

Murphy, a Democrat who represented Florida’s 7th Congressional District from 2017 through 2023, has now raised more than $1.1 million between her campaign and political committee. Along with Disney’s contribution, her campaign has received significant support from several high-profile donors, including former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, businessman J. Hyatt Brown, entrepreneur Beat Kähli, and Murphy’s own Center Aisle PAC. Murphy says the support reflects her campaign’s focus on affordability, livability, and creating opportunities for Orange County residents.
The donation also highlights Disney’s continued interest in local leadership as Orange County plays a vital role in the tourism industry and is home to Walt Disney World Resort. Disney has not publicly commented on the contribution. Fellow Democratic candidate and Orange County Commissioner Mayra Uribe has raised more than $800,000, while Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell has raised approximately $325,000. Republican candidate Chris Messina has raised about $134,000.

Voters will head to the polls for the primary election on August 18. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two finishers will advance to a runoff election in November. With nearly $3 million already raised among the candidates, this election has already surpassed fundraising totals seen during the last open mayoral race in 2018.
