Disney+ Announces Three New Original Streaming Shows, Including a Captian Nemo Origin Series

Disney+ Announces Three New Original Streaming Shows, Including a Captian Nemo Origin Series. All-new content is coming to Disney+ and the streaming service has just announced three new shows: Wedding Season, Culprits, and a Captain Nemo origin story from 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas. The shows are currently listed under “UK Star Originals” so it is currently unknown if the shows will be featured on Disney+ or, due to their adult content nature, stay under the Hot Star streaming service US equivalent brand, Hulu.

Wedding Season is set to begin shooting by the end of the month and will feature Alita: Battle Angel star Rosa Salazar as Katie “a picture-perfect bride who we meet on her wedding day surrounded by the dead bodies of her new husband and every member of his family. The police think her lover Stefan did it. Stefan thinks Katie did it. Katie thinks her ex-husband did it. And no one knows for sure what the truth is.”

The new series Culprits is said to follow “what happens after a heist, when the crew have gone their separate ways, but are being targeted by a killer one-by-one,” and will star Nathan Stewart-Jarrett. Stephen Garrett (The Undoing) and filmmaker J Blakeson (I Care A Lot) are signed on as executive producers for the series.

One very exciting aspect of the Disney streaming services is the ability to explore content that was shelved from previous years due to budget issues, delays, including the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea remake that was in development back in 2013, but ultimately fell through for the studio Now, Captain Nemo will be getting a live-action origin story called Nautilus and is set to begin production in early 2022.

The official synopsis for Nautilus reads: “Nemo is an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family, a prisoner of the East India Company and a man bent on revenge against the forces which have taken everything from him. But once he sets sail with his ragtag crew on board the awe-inspiring Nautilus, he not only battles with his enemy, he also discovers a magical underwater world.

“Jules Verne’s story is a beloved classic all around the world,” Johanna Devereaux, director of scripted original content for EMEA at Disney+ shared in a statement. “It’s a huge privilege to bring the Nautilus and her crew to life again in such a bold, exciting way, with a diverse team of creative talent and on-screen characters. The series will be breathtaking, action-packed and a huge amount of fun.”

As we shared before, it is currently unknown which streaming service the new shows will stream on, but the most likely scenario will see Wedding Season, Culprits, and Nautilus premiere on Hot Star and Hulu when the time comes. 1. Just noting a couple of misspellings of “Captain”. It’s spelled Captian in the headline as well as the body of the article at least once.
