What is the best thing about January? CES of course! The Consumer Electronics Show, or CES as it is commonly known, takes place yearly in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is here that innovative designs and technological advances related to consumer technology are displayed to the world. Disney is no stranger to making announcements related to its theme parks during this event. So far, CES 2019 is shaping up to be no different.
During a press conference at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Panasonic and Disney announced that they will be partnering on Mickey and Minnie Mouse’s Runaway Railway. This new attraction was first announced at D23 in Japan. While a specific debut has not been announced as of yet, we did learn that Disney is utilizing Panasonic for its projection technology which will be used to power the attraction. Mickey and Minnie Mouse’s Runaway Railway is scheduled to debut in Disney’s Hollywood Studios this fall.
“For the first time, our guests will be able to step into Mickey Mouse’s wacky and unpredictable animated world,” stated Tom LaDuke, a technical director for Walt Disney Imagineering. About the partnership with Panasonic LaDuke stated, “They really help us transform a two-dimensional cartoon into an amazing real-world experience.”
This is not the first time these two innovative companies of teamed up for an attraction. Panasonic provided the visual effects for Na’vi River Journey in Pandora – The World of Avatar located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
Personally, I think that the special effects involved with Na’vi River Journey attraction are out of this world. I cannot wait to see what type of experience Mickey and Minnie Mouse’s Runaway Railway provides riders in the first theme park ride ever dedicated to these classic characters!
