Walt Disney World Resort is currently rolling out a new way to access your resort room. The digital key feature will work similarly to a Magic Band. Guests staying at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort, Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort can now use this feature.

Designed to bring ease to accessing resort rooms, the digital key feature will allow guests to unlock their door simply by placing their mobile device at the door lock. While you can still use your MagicBands, the digital key can be very convenient. Chances are, your phone is very accessible or even in your hand already when returning to your room. If you aren’t wearing your MagicBand or you happen to be carrying a sleeping child (or tons of merchandise) with the arm that has your band, this gives you another easy way to unlock your door.

Disney is looking to bring the digital key feature to all resorts over the next few years.

What are your thoughts on the digital key? Is it more, less or about the same convenience as a MagicBand?
